Team changes at the Broome Bird Observatory
The BBO Committee would like to announce that the current Wardens, Pete Collins and Holly Sitters, will be leaving the BBO on 16 May 2008. We would like to thank Pete and Holly for the wonderful contribution they have made over the past 2 years and wish them all the best as they head off travelling through the Kimberley and back across Australia to the East coast.
The Committee is delighted to welcome the new Wardens, Jon and Anne King, who recently arrived from the United States and have taken over with effect from the 12 May 2008. more.

A Chinese Pond Heron was found two days ago, around 20km north of Broome, by visiting birders Rob Berry and Gail D'Alton. This is the 1st record for mainland Australia. You can find pictures on the Recent Sightings page.

Throughout February the Broome Bird Observatory hosted scientists and researchers from the United States Geological Survey Alaska Science Centre (USGS), the Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) and the Global Flyway Network (GFN). They formed a team with local enthusiasts and members of the BBO staff, with the goal of trapping and satellite tagging Bar-tailed Godwits of the menzbieri sub-species and then following their migratory journey to their breeding grounds in Siberia . . . more.
