Where to find us

Broome Bird Observatory is located on Crab Creek Road which runs along the northern shores of Roebuck Bay. We are around 25 kilometres from Broome by road. The road is readily accessable by conventional vehicles except during the wet season. The last six kilometres is frequently very corrugated.

Broome lies on the coast of north Western Australia, around 2,400 kilometres north of Perth and some 2 hours by air.

Visiting the BBO

Situated amid dense acacia scrub, or "pindan", the Observatory has a rustic feel which well suits its surroundings. It has an extensive natural history library, video room and provides well marked tracks with interpretive signs, which are ideal for self-guided botanical tours.

Wildlife abounds in and around the Observatory and you will enjoy the constant companionship of abundant bush birds, frequent encounters with extraordinary reptiles and dawn and dusk visits by mobs of Agile Wallabies. A visit to Broome Bird Observatory is a must for all bird and nature lovers.

Day visitor entry fee There is no entrance fee, but we request a donation to which many respond with around $5.00. Entry is free for Friends of Broome Bird Observatory members, Birds Australia members, tour participants and guests staying at the Observatory.
