Join us at Broome Bird Observatory on April 19th to witness this awe-inspiring natural phenomenon as thousands of shorebirds take flight from Roebuck Bay—Australia’s Shorebird Capital!

Field Sketching for Beginners

Slow down and learn to truly observe birds in the field with award-winning illustrator Peter Marsack. This relaxed, beginner-friendly session introduces the fundamentals of field sketching — capturing structure, movement and key features through simple, confident drawing techniques. Part studio, part outdoor observation at Roebuck Bay. No advanced skills required — just curiosity and a pencil.
Morning sessions 9:00am | Afternoon sessions 3:00pm | Small group (max 8).

Join award-winning natural history illustrator Peter Marsack for a small-group, two-day bird illustration workshop at Broome Bird Observatory. Designed for participants with watercolour experience, this intensive focuses on developing a realistic, resolved bird painting using both reference material and direct observation. Day one builds technical control and detail; day two explores placing the bird within its environment using light, foliage and texture. Maximum 8 participants to ensure individual guidance.
8:00am–5:00pm both days. Bookings essential.
